Resolved - We have identified the underlying issue causing the 400s. It seems that in recent versions, GitLab appears more sensitive to a blank Host header. Our reverse proxy supports HTTP/3 / QUIC, in which the host header is supposed to be replaced with the content of the pseudo-header :authority. The configuration we had for the GitLab host added the host header, using the contents of the request's host header. However, it did so using the $http_host variable instead of $host. $http_host strictly refers to a HTTP/1.1 style Host header, instead of the HTTP/3 pseudo-header that replaced it. Only $host properly checks this header. Thus, sending an HTTP/3 request results in an empty $http_host, and thus an empty Host header. GitLab must have previously not cared about this, but latest releases do.

We have accordingly solved the issue by changing our reverse proxy config to set Host headers based on $host.

Update - We have completed all physical work in the on-prem environment, as well as the virtualization updates. We are bringing all services in the on-prem environment back online, but we are still waiting on the on-prem router to finish its upgrade, after which there will be another brief network outage.

Scheduled - We will be conducting regularly scheduled infrastructure updates at this time, which includes upgrades to our virtualization and routing infrastructure. In addition, during this maintenance period, we will be installing a new PDU in the on-premise environment. These items will result in an outage of the on-premise environment, including network connectivity.

Non-Anycast CDN services as well as ZephyrGuard tunnels will additionally have a brief downtime for service restarts. Petalpost mail clients will experience a brief downtime as we restart services on our primary mail host, however our secondary mail hosts will receive any inbound mail during this time.

Update - Our UPS runtime is low and the hypervisor has shut itself down. All on-prem services are currently unavailable. The local utility has not yet acknowledged the outage. We are awaiting further information.

Investigating - There is a power outage currently affecting the on-prem environment. Our UPSs are currently working, however the outage is lasting longer than a couple minutes. As there is a risk of a controlled shutdown, we are preemptively opening an incident.

Identified - There is an upstream issue (fiber cuts + maintenance) with the provider for Horikita which is currently resulting in a loss of IPv6 connectivity and intermittent IPv4 connectivity. Since this server is not serving production, we're just leaving this as a degraded incident for now and will continue to monitor.

Investigating - We are now investigating a separate issue with the same provider that is impacting Bettel’s IPv6 connectivity. As our primary MX is working, this is not impacting mail flow.
